Meet Afrobeat Artiste Luisbenz as He Tells Us About His Musical Journey

Avatar Official Clipkulture
May 31, 2020

Clipkulture caught up with fast rising Afrobeat artiste, Joshua Chuks-Uguru a.k.a Luisbenz, who chatted with us a bit about himself and his latest project.

Who is Luis Benz?

Luisbenz is deviance from the norm, Luisbenz is Change, Luisbenz is the best, he likes his things done differently. Anything deviating from the norm.

What’s your Style of Music and why did you choose this Genre?

My genre of music is what I like to call the Improved version of Afrobeat for now. I would later love to evolve into my own genre of music.

This style agrees with my soul and best portrays whatever I want my audience to know.

How did you venture into music?

Music is something that I have Always had in me, but I never really took seriously till high school when I created a gang with my friends and we where the rave of the whole school, it was then I knew that there was really a future in this Music, I went on to the university and took over my whole school and It’s been history since then.

What inspires your music?

My music is inspired by how I’m feeling at the particular time a beat is played, sometimes I’m practicing and I record some freestyles that I never get to produce till I feel that particular way again.

Are you in school and course of study?

Yes I am in school, I attend the university of petroleum resources Effurun(FUPRE) in warri and I’m studying EMT(Environment Management and Toxicology science)

How long have you been doing music?

Music I would say is something I was born with, I remember back in the days doing some freestyles for my siblings, uncles and aunties.

Even then when I didn’t understand what I was saying they always clapped for me so I knew I had something.

I however I started doing Music professionally in 2016.

Tells us about your new project

Well the “BENZ OR NOTHING” is going to be my debut EP consisting of four songs, Every song has it’s own special vibe and speaks to my audience and I know everyone will be able to relate to each of the songs in their own special way.

This EP is going to be my Breakthrough into the mainstream, It’s a wonderful project and I can’t wait to share it with y’all.

What inspired the Adanma song or is Adanma your girl friend?

(Laughs)I don’t think I know any girl called Adanma, What inspired that song was when listening to a reggae song during that period and I was like, I want to sing a song that portrays the same message, The name Adanma just came along, it matched the vibe.

How do you see the music industry in Nigeria?

Well the Nigerian Music Industry is doing very well right now, it’s in a better place but I’ll tell you the truth, I feel we are lacking so much musically, I remember in the days of Psquare and Mo hits and 2baba, those guys will sing a love song and it will touch the deepest part of your soul or a dance song and you’ll actually dance your heart away, I think we’ve lost that presently, but not to worry that’s one of the reasons I’m here.

In the industry, which artist would you like to work with and why?

If there are any artistes I would love to work with it would be Wande Coal and Phyno, Wande coal is an Icon, very talented and when two icons go on a song you know what happens.

And Phyno, well I really love the Igbo Language though I’m partly Igbo, I would love to create some international, local magic.

How has your music journey been?

It’s been smooth and rough, I’ve learnt a lot of Lessons and overcome a lot, It’s been lots of hardwork, perseverance and God all the way.

Where do you see yourself in the next five years?

Well in the next five years honestly I would’ve have conquered Africa before then, I will be on the World stage by then, In the next five years I’ll be recognized all over the world.

A word to your fans

I would want everyone who supports my brand to know that Faith, hard work and perseverance is unbeatable, I also want them to know that God is the greatest.
