Beautiful Akan Bride Wrapped in Adinkra Kente Material

According to the Akan (Ashanti) custom, the first step in a traditional Ghanaian Wedding is the “Knocking Ceremony” also known as “opon-akyi bo”.
This is the ceremony where the husband to be, through his family, make their intentions for marriage known to the Bride’s family.
The groom’s family don’t come empty handed, they usually come with traditional items like palm wine, a bottle of wine or hot drink and some money.
It is after the success of the Knocking Ceremony that the man’s family is given a list containing items that would be presented to the bride and her family, including the dowry, on a later date.
