Before You Get Artificial Dreadlocks: 8 Facts to Note

1. Artificial Dreadlocks are achieved by braiding or attaching dreadlocks extensions to your hair.

2. It has been advised that you shouldn’t wear your dreadlocks extensions for more than 3 months. Anytime longer than this will likely take your hair into its own locking process. So except you want your hair locked keep your artificial locks for not longer than 2-3 months.

3. If your dreadlocks extensions were attached with rubber bands, then all you need to do to remove your locks is to cut the rubber bands carefully.

4. After removing your dreadlocks extensions apply conditioner your hair. NOTE: Do not comb your hair before conditioning.

5. When you have applied conditioner to your hair, you can then begin the detangling process with your fingers. Finger comb your hair till you are satisfied you have gotten rid of any tangles or knots. You can then comb your hair carefully from the tips to the base.Don’t be alarmed by the quantity of hair you seem to “lose” while combing, it’s normal. Think about the fact that you usually loose some hair (about a hundred) daily from combing, then place that beside not combing your hair for about 3 months!

6. You can now wash your hair with a shampoo and conditioner again. You can also apply hair mask for extra rejuvenation.

7. If well cared for, artificial dreadlocks extensions are reusable. You can wear them again if you so wish.So make sure you wash your dreadlocks extensions, preferably by hand, after removing them. Some people use liquid detergent and the washing machine to wash their dreadlocks extensions. Put the extensions into a washing bag and place in the washing machine at 30°C…Let us know how it goes, because I haven’t used this method before.I heard wool dreadlocks extensions can shrink after machine wash, though.

8. Let your dreadlocks extensions dry naturally, air dry them. Store your dreadlocks extensions carefully away from dust, you can keep them in a box.
