Imvutano is the traditional dress for the women of Burundi. It is worn during special events such as engagements and weddings.
The imvutano is a three piece outfit made of an average of 3metres of light fabric.
The skirt is usually long and flowing with gathers, reaching the floor. The top of this ensemble is sari-like, with the fabric draping over one shoulder across the body, leaving the other shoulder bare.
To complete the elegant look, most women wear a fitted matching inside piece such as a camisole or tube top.
