What Does Gutwikurura Symbolise?

Gutwikurura is the ceremony of “unveiling”, as the bride is believed to have been “veiled” from the outside world.
The Gutwikurura is actually the last phase in the Rwanda traditional wedding process.
It is during this phase that the new wife is visited by her family with some gift items to help her settle in her new home.
The bride then presents a basket to her mother-in-law and cooks for her husband’s family for the first time. Prior to this time, she wouldn’t be allowed to do any work.
Today Gutwikurura is just a symbol of culture since done at the same time as the wedding and give away ceremonies.
