Gugu Gumede’s Hairstyles Plus 9 Things You Should Know

- Gugu Gumede is a South African actor born 10th December, 1991 in Kwazulu Natal.
- She studied acting at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in Los Angeles.

3. Gugu returned from the United States in 2013 and landed a role as Mandisa in South African soapie, “Generations”. In 2015 she got into “Uzalo”, playing the character of Mamlambo.

4. Gugu initially used to wear wigs because she wasn’t comfortable with her own hair:
“I used to wear wigs because I just didn’t feel beautiful without them,”

5. Gugu has learnt that not everyone wishes her well and has learned to live without expecting people’s approvals:
“I’ve learnt that not everyone is rooting for you. In life, not everyone is going to like you. Not everyone is going to agree with you. Not everyone is going to clap for you. You will go through roller coasters as an actor, go through different phases. You have to learn to block that out and just stay true to yourself.”

6. She admits that as an actor immersing yourself in a character can be quite demanding:
“I have learnt the lesson and seen it so many times: you have got to step out of your character at the end of the day. It is easier said than done, but especially when you are in an emotional storyline, you have to keep telling yourself that it is not you.
Know who you are, so you can identify when you are being your character and when you are being yourself.”

7. She is a meticulous person, so you should be careful not to scatter her cushions around when you get into her living room.

8. Gugu doesn’t believe she has to show skin to prove she’s comfortable with herself:
“it’s people who want to dress up and show their bodies off in a certain way and girl, if that is you good for you… I wouldn’t do that and I can’t do that because I feel comfortable with who I am and I don’t have to show skin to prove it to anyone.
For me, it also has to do with who I am and what I was taught at home. I was raised by such an amazing, powerful and strong woman. I never forget the things that she has taught me. I thank her so much because what she has said has helped build the person I am, things like body confidence.”

9. Gugu says her greatest purpose in life is to embody Christ. She however admits that being a Christian and popular is no easy feat:
“Social media is such a dangerous platform. It can also be good but just as dangerous, people start to undermine themselves and start allowing peer pressure to have a go at us. For me, I know it all so well, especially because of my Christianity and my core values. I constantly have to navigate between staying true to myself and being accepted by people.”
