Kalenjin Tribe Facts

Kalenjin are Kenya’s fourth largest ethnic group in Kenya, and are usually called “the Running Tribe” as most long distance runners are of this tribe. The Kalenjins are predominantly in the Kenyan Western Highlands and Rift Valley.

They are believed to have migrated from the Nile River along Sudan and western Ethiopian Highlands.

The Kalenjins speak the Kalenjin language.

Kelenjin men wear coats, shirts and trousers while the women wear blouses and skirts. It was a custom for both men and women to wear earrings in the past.

The staple food of the Kalenjin is Ugali and Sukuma (Kale).
