Q and A

What is Telosh?

The Habesha traditional wedding ceremony begins with a ceremony called Telosh (Ethiopian) or Helefot (Eritrean), which happens two days, usually a the Thursday or Friday before the main wedding ceremony.

This ceremony takes place in the Bride’s family home and is an opportunity for the groom and his family to shower the Bride with gifts.

Other friends and family members may also present gifts to the bride. Gifts presented to the bride are usually jewelry, gold, clothing and other things of value.

The Telosh is more or less a traditional bridal shower, where the bride is celebated in an open gift giving ceremony in the presence of family and friends.

After the presentation of Gifts dinner is served and in some instances celebration may continue all through the night.
