Easy Mutton Bunny Chow Recipe

Bunny chow is a popular South African street food dish made up of a hollowed-out loaf of white bread filled with curry gravy.

Bonny chow originated from the Indian community in Durban, dating back to the 1940s. The migrant Indian workers then figured out that one easy way to carry their lunch was to carry it in a hollow loaf of bread…and that was the beginning of the bonny chow bread recipe!

Ingredients:

Half a cup of Oil
Bay leaves
Cinnamon sticks
Cloves
Star-anise
3 sliced Onions
Green chilies
Curry leaves
2 tsp of Ginger and garlic
2 tsp of Roasted coriander / dhania powder
2 tsp of Cumin / jeera powder
2 tsp of Turmeric
3 tbs of Nagiahs Everyday Masala
2 tbs of Kashmiri Chili Powder
6 liqudised Jam Tomatoes
1 tsp of Sugar (any sweetener)
1kg of B-grade Mutton pieces B.Nagiahs
Salt to taste

Smaller pot:
1 Potato
Boiling water
Less than a quarter tsp of Turmeric
Salt

6 Halved Potatoes incl one for the mutton gravy
Dash of Boiling water
Fresh Curry leaves
