South African Traditional Food: Samp Recipe

Serves 6

Ingredients

3 Cups Samp

4 Liters Water

1/2 to 1 Flat Tspn Tumeric

1 Sachet Cream of Mushroom Soup

100g Rama

4 Tbsp Cremora

1 Tbsp Aromat

200 ml Fresh Cream

 

Method

Soak samp in boiling water for one hour.

Rinse and pour 4 cups water and cook over medium to high heat for 1 hour. Adding cup water occasionally if need be.

After an hour add turmeric and cover samp with water and cook for another hour.

Add aromat, cream of mushroom, cremora then simmer for another hour.

Remember to add a cup of water if your samp looks too thick at this stage…

Add rama and cream then let it continue to simmer for 15 minutes.
