4 Tips on How to “Texlax” your Hair

What is Texlaxing?

Texlaxing is when you deliberately under process your hair with a chemical relaxer. You want more texture than straightening.

4 Different Ways to Texlax Your Hair

1. Reduce the processing time of the relaxer after you have applied the relaxer. Spend less than the required processing time on the relaxer.

2. Dilute your relaxer by gradually adding oil or conditioner; this reduces the thickness and strength of the relaxer.

About 1/4 cup of oil will go with a single relaxer cup. Add gradually and make sure your relaxer doesn’t become soupy

Oils like Olive, Almond or Jojoba are commonly used. Do not use essential oils.

If using a no-lye relaxer you can also reduce the amount of activator in the mix.

3. Apply a hair barrier.

You can apply a thick cream or oil to your hair prior to relaxer application to reduce the relaxing strength of the chemical.

4. Skip the smoothing stage

After applying the relaxer skip the smoothing stage. The smoothing stage is actually where your hair is straightened to it’s new permanent position.

So skipping this stage helps keep most of your curls.
